Sir Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, has paid a solemn visit to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, at his Abuja residence, ostensibly to plead for forgiveness and reconciliation.

The meeting occurred a few days after Fubara’s meeting with President Bola Tinubu in London over the Rivers political crisis.

President Tinubu had declared an emergency rule in the oil-rich Rivers and suspended Fubara and other elected officials for an initial six months.

President Tinubu had instructed Governor Fubara to reconcile with Rivers state leaders.

Acting on this instruction, Fubara visited Wike’s Abuja home, alongside a delegation including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, other governors, and former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba.

“Fubara was brought to the minister’s house on Friday, 18 April. He prostrated for Wike while holding his legs and calling him, ‘My Oga’,” according to a source.

The source added that Fubara was in Wike’s house till the wee hours of Saturday, April 19.

A source also revealed that one of the conditions given to Fubara was that he must assemble his supporters in Rivers, especially the elders, and tell them the “truth” about his feud with Wike.

Lere Olayinka, the minister’s spokesman , confirmed the meeting but did not give full details.
