The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has denied allegations that it has abandoned renowned actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, who is currently battling health issues.

In a video made by the association’s spokesperson, Kate Henshaw, the claims that it has abandoned the ailing actor to his fate was refuted.

In her video message, Henshaw said it was inaccurate to suggest that the AGN had abandoned Mr. Ibu in his time of need.

Social media had been abuzz with accusations that the Guild and fellow actors had not adequately addressed Mr. Ibu’s health challenges, forcing him to reach out to the public for financial assistance.

Henshaw defended the AGN’s stance, asserting that the accusations held no truth and foundation.

She highlighted that the association had been actively involved in providing support and assistance to Mr. Ibu even before his health condition became public knowledge.

She noted that the guild had rallied its members to offer financial aid in collaboration with Mr. Ibu’s family to ensure that he received the help he needed.

Henshaw explained that the AGN refrains from publicising the support it offers to their members as it goes against their standard operating procedures.

The AGN’s President, Emeka Rollas, also underlined the association’s commitment to the welfare of its members.

He said the Guild had partnered with Universal Insurance to provide group on-set health coverage for its members, ensuring their well-being in cases of health emergencies.

Furthermore, various welfare packages were established for the benefit of AGN members.

Despite these efforts, Rollas expressed dismay at the industry’s apathy and lackadaisical attitude toward welfare packages, including health issues.
