Bandits break into MKO Abiola’s Ikeja home, cart away cash, valuables

About 22 years after the demise of Chief MKO Abiola, some gunmen have invaded and ransacked his Ikeja residence.

The robbers, who invaded the house in the early hours of Wednesday, reportedly subjected the family to extreme emotional torture and harassment before bolting with cash and other valuable items.

Abiola, a philanthropist, business mogul and politician, was the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential poll, adjudged as the freest and most credible election in history.

Persecondnews recalls that the election was annulled by military Head of State, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.

Abiola declared himself president and was arrested and taken to custody in Aso Rock by Head of junta, the late Gen. Sani Abacha.

Abiola later died in custody under mysterious circumstances.

“The police have since been informed. The crime is being investigated.

“We are consoled by the fact that no life was lost in this unfortunate and frightening incident,” a statement by Tundun Abiola, given to Persecondnews, said.

“We give glory to Almighty Allah and we thank friends and family members across the world who have called and sent messages of support and solidarity.”
