Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 2026 African Union (AU) Summit.
In a statement released by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, it was confirmed that the Vice President will participate in the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly and the 30th General Assembly on February 14 and 15.
This year’s summit is centered on the theme, “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”
Discussions will focus on accelerating continental progress in water management and sanitation, key pillars of the AU’s long-term development framework.
On the sidelines of the Summit, Shettima will participate in high-level side events and hold bilateral engagements with political and business leaders aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic, economic, and strategic partnerships across the continent.
The Vice President is accompanied by some ministers and other senior government officials.
Shettima is expected back in the country at the conclusion of his official engagements in Addis Ababa.
