Marriage no longer a big deal for me – Elozonam

129

Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Elozonam Ogbolu, has opened up on why he does not regard marriage as a major life goal, revealing that his views have been shaped largely by repeated exposure to failed unions around him.

Speaking during a recent episode of the WithChude podcast, the reality TV star said witnessing the collapse of several marriages among friends, acquaintances, and people close to him has deeply influenced his skepticism toward the institution.

Elozonam has seen many of the weddings he celebrated firsthand end in public heartbreak.

To him, the most unsettling part isn’t the split itself, but the messy, dramatic, and often unexplained bitterness that follows the fallout.

He noted that the pattern of breakdown he has observed over time has made it difficult for him to view marriage as something inherently stable or reassuring.

While acknowledging that some marriages may end simply because they stop working for both parties, he maintained that the dominant narrative he encounters is one of disappointment and emotional strain.

This, he said, has contributed to his growing doubts about whether marriage is as essential as society often presents it.

The former reality star, however, was careful to clarify that he does not believe all marriages fail.

He acknowledged that successful and fulfilling unions do exist, but pointed out that they are rarely visible.

According to him, happy couples are usually too busy living their lives to constantly share their experiences publicly.

He also highlighted the role of social media in shaping perceptions about marriage, noting that negative stories tend to travel faster and gain more attention than positive ones.

Elozonam said constant exposure to tales of heartbreak, divorce, and public fallouts began to subtly influence his mindset.

As a result, he disclosed that he has deliberately distanced himself from conversations and online content centered on marriage failures, explaining that he did so to protect his outlook and avoid becoming overly cynical.

Elozonam admitted that, given what he has seen, he doesn’t feel a pressing need to get married.

He’s staying open-minded, but he isn’t interested in following a societal script.

For now, his energy is directed toward self-improvement and figuring out what a successful relationship actually looks like on his own terms.
