Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant shift in Nigeria’s opposition landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.

Atiku announced his membership on Monday via his X handle, sharing a photo of himself holding his ADC card with the caption, “It’s official”.

His decision to join the ADC was widely anticipated, especially as he had previously championed the party as a potential coalition platform for opposition forces.

This move comes after his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in July, which occurred amid significant internal party strife.

He received his membership card in Jada, Adamawa State, amid cheers from supporters, saying, “Today, the new movement has brought us to the ADC… Will you accept me?” to which the crowd responded with a resounding “Yes”.
