The rift between Ogun Gov. Dapo Abiodun and former Gov. Gbenga Daniel reached a boiling point on Monday as Daniel, the incumbent Senator for Ogun East, was barred from a pivotal senatorial meeting in Ijebu-Ode.
Daniel, who is vying for a second term, finds himself in a direct power struggle with Abiodun, who is also reportedly eyeing the same seat in the National Assembly.
The friction between the two leaders moved from political maneuvering to a physical standoff at the Adeola Odutola Hall.
Viral footage captured the moment Senator Daniel’s vehicle was blocked at the entrance, while aides and supporters pleaded with security to grant him access.
Despite arriving at 10:00am for the scheduled caucus meeting, Daniel remained locked out of the venue where crucial decisions regarding the senatorial ticket were expected to be made.
Daniel said: “Today is our caucus meeting in Ijebu-Ode. I had arrived since 10:00am but they said i cannot enter.
“If they do anything here today and I am not allowed to participate, whatever they do will be null and void. Leave them, let them continue to play.”
Senator Daniel had yet to gain entry to the venue as of the filing of this report.
