The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC)
has issued a public warning regarding the sale of unregistered and suspected counterfeit Colgate toothpaste in Kaduna State.
In a statement released via X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the agency revealed that the alert was triggered by a consumer complaint to its Post-Marketing Surveillance Directorate.
Investigators discovered two specific fakes—”Coglaet ActivGel” and “Coglaet Herbal” (100g)—at a local outlet.
The shop owner claimed the stock was bought from a mobile sales representative but could not produce a receipt.
NAFDAC warns that these products bypass all safety standards and pose significant health risks to the public.
Further checks showed that the items carried no batch numbers or NAFDAC registration numbers, despite listing a manufacturer in Guangzhou, China.
The products have since been confiscated, while investigations continue to trace their source and distribution network.
The agency has directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to intensify surveillance and remove any such products found in circulation.
NAFDAC also urged distributors, retailers, and consumers to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of products before purchase or use.
