D’Tigers Name Impressive Squad for 2027 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers

Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, has announced its 12-man roster for the 2027 FIBA World Cup African qualifiers, led by veteran guard Stanley Okoye, a 2015 Afrobasket champion and the team’s longest-serving player.

The squad, which blends international experience with local talent, has already departed for Tunisia, where they will face Rwanda, Guinea, and hosts Tunisia in Group C.

The selected players include three home-based stars – Chinkpa Garba and Obekpa Chris from Lagos Legends, Nigeria’s current champions, and Paul Dibal – from Gboko City Chiefs, who delivered an impressive performance.

– Simon Ugochukwu (Italy)
– Stanley Okoye (Spain)

– Olisa Akinobi (USA)

The technical crew includes Head Coach Abdulrahaman Mohammed, Assistant Coaches Akindele Ayodeji and Job Nelson, and Video Coach Onyebuchi Onyeka.

The qualifiers will span five windows from November 2025 to February 2027, with only five African teams securing World Cup spots in Doha.
