A pre-dawn raid by suspected terrorists in Kwara State left four soldiers and a local vigilante dead on Monday, April 20.
The attack targeted Kemanji, a border community in the Kaiama Local Government Area of the state, sparking a fierce two-hour gun battle between the assailants and security forces.
According to residents, the gunmen stormed the community around 3:00 a.m., leading to a violent confrontation that lasted until daybreak.
While the full extent of the damage remains unclear, community members confirmed the loss of five security personnel.
“Our soldiers and vigilantes engaged them in an intense battle,” one resident noted, urging prayers for the fallen.
Residents were said to have fled their homes during the attack, seeking safety in nearby bushes and neighbouring communities as the sound of gunfire intensified.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack, and it remains unconfirmed if any residents were abducted.
Both the Kwara State Police Command and military officials could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
