E-Sports Fever Hits Abuja: Game Fest 25 2nd Edition Brings Gaming Frenzy

The Turf Arena in Wuse came alive at the weekend for the highly anticipated second edition of Game Fest 25, a “FIFA Knockouts Tournament.”

The event attracted a huge crowd of gamers from all over the city, who came to witness the ultimate battle for a prize pool exceeding N200,000.

The championship not only provided a thrilling competition but also highlighted the impressive growth and popularity of eSports in the region.

Adeleke Joel, the visionary organizer of Game Fest 25, proudly highlighted the event’s role in propelling the eSports revolution in the capital city.

“eSports is gradually but surely taking over the gaming scene in Abuja, with a new generation of young residents embracing the thrill of electronic gaming,” Joel said.

He added:”With the Federation’s technical backing and the upcoming launch of the E-Sports league next year, we are poised to cultivate elite gamers from Abuja who can put Nigeria on the global gaming map, fetching continental and international acclaim.”

Guru, a top competitor, stormed to victory in the highly anticipated FC 25 tournament.

He took an early and unassailable lead, cruising to a convincing win and demonstrating his exceptional skills.

As the champion, he walked away with the grand prize of N200,000.

Reflecting on his triumph, Mr. Guru exuded confidence, saying, “I am feeling confident because the game is going my way, sometimes it can also go against you, the tournament has been very impressive with top gamers all bringing in their A game.”

Persecondnews reports that the E-Sports Federation of Nigeria (EFN) is gearing up to kick-start the revamped E-Sports league in the first quarter of 2026.

Yahaya Maikori, the federation’s president said in an exclusive with Persecondnews sports correspondent in Abuja that he was excited about the upcoming league.

Maikori said: “We want to create an ecosystem where young gamers can thrive and earn a decent living. Hence the need we bringing back the E-Sports league in the first quarter of 2026.”

After a six-year effort to unify stakeholders, the Esports Federation of Nigeria (EFN) was officially inaugurated in March 2025 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

According to the EFN president, the federation is working to establish both the league and Nigeria as the e-sports leader in Africa.

This effort aims to create opportunities for young, overlooked talents.
