Relief for Passengers: Tinubu Intervenes in Jet A1 Crisis to Lower Airfares, Support Local Airlines

162

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo (SAN) has unveiled a series of federal interventions designed to stabilize Nigeria’s aviation sector amid a crippling surge in Jet A1 fuel prices.

Following an intensive marathon meeting with petroleum officials, oil marketers, and airline operators, Keyamo announced that President Bola Tinubu has authorized “generous discounts” on outstanding debts owed by carriers to federal aviation agencies.

The move aims to prevent a total collapse of air transport services as fuel costs reach unsustainable levels.

Beyond immediate debt relief, the Minister revealed that the President will soon inaugurate a special committee tasked with stripping away the “multiple taxes and levies” currently bloating airfares.

This two-pronged approach is intended to protect the commercial viability of local airlines while providing much-needed financial breathing room for passengers.
