NNPC Ltd. Debunks Rumours, Confirms Port Harcourt Refinery is Producing at 70% Capacity

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has dismissed rumours circulating about the newly rehabilitated Port Harcourt Refinery and Petrochemical Company.

In a statement released on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, the national oil company assured Nigerians that the refinery is indeed producing petroleum products, contrary to claims made by certain individuals.

The company expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their support and excitement over the safe and successful restart of the 60,000 barrels-per-day Old Port Harcourt Refinery.

Soneye cautioned those spreading false information to desist forthwith, stating that such malicious attacks only undermine the significant progress made by NNPC Ltd and the country.

Soneye noted that the company is “aware of unfounded claims by certain individuals suggesting that the refinery is not producing products.

“For clarity, the Old Port Harcourt Refinery is currently operating at 70 percent of its installed capacity, with plans to ramp up to 90 percent.”

The oil company also clarified that the refinery incorporates crack C5, a blending component from its sister company, Indorama Petrochemicals, to produce gasoline that meets required specifications.

NNPC Ltd. emphasized that blending is a standard practice in refineries globally, as no single unit can produce gasoline that fully complies with any country’s standards without such processes.

The successful rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refinery marks a significant step forward for Nigeria’s energy sector, which has faced operational challenges and underperformance in recent years.

NNPC Ltd. urged Nigerians to focus on the remarkable achievements being realized under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and to support efforts aimed at delivering more dividends to the nation.

The oil company reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, urging Nigerians to disregard false information and instead focus on the progress being made in the energy sector.
