Three men including a septuagenarian have been traced and nabbed in Katsina State, President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state, for allegedly insulting Buhari and Governor Aminu Bello Masari on the social media.
Police gave the names of the suspects as 70-year-old Lawal Abdullahi Izala,Bahajaje Abu,30, and Hamza Abubakar, 27, all of Gafai Quarters, Katsina. They were alleged to have “contemptuously” spoken about the governor and the president in a video that went viral on the social media. Confirming their arrests, the spokesman for the State Police Command, DSP Gambo Isah, said: The three men “contemptuously” insulted the president and the governor and we took action after our attention was drawn to the video. “Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, Katsina state command, CP Sanusi Buba, ordered for investigation which led to the arrest of the trio and in the course of investigation, the suspects confessed to committing the offences. “To this end, the command wishes to warn members of the general public that the police will not fold its arms and watch while disgruntled elements violate the sacred laws of the land. Isah warned that anyone found taking undue advantage of the social media to insult others in violation of the provisions of the Cyber Crime Act would be made to face the wrath of the law.
