Tragedy struck a British Airways flight traveling from London to Abuja on Monday morning when a retired Nigerian Air Vice Marshal died on board.
The flight, which had departed Heathrow at 11 p.m. Sunday, was en route to Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
Due to the medical emergency, the plane was diverted to Barcelona, Spain, instead of arriving in Abuja at its scheduled 5 a.m. time.
The death caused a wave of distress and confusion in the cabin, an environment so chaotic that it unfortunately triggered a second medical emergency involving a pregnant passenger.
She was later stabilized.
British Airways, in a message to passengers, apologised for the disruption and assured them of support.
“Passengers are advised to expect an email with more information and can reach out to the airline’s Live Chat feature for support. British Airways acknowledges the inconvenience and thanks passengers for their patience and understanding,” the airline stated.
Hours later, a replacement aircraft continued the journey to Abuja.
