The Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Mrs. Olu Verheijen, on Thursday hosted the Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Rabiu Abdullahi Umar, for high-level discussions on developments across Nigeria’s energy sector.

The meeting focused on the progress of ongoing reforms in the petroleum industry, emerging opportunities created by recent policy interventions, and measures aimed at deepening collaboration between government institutions and industry stakeholders.

Sources familiar with the discussions said both officials reviewed key developments in the midstream and downstream segments of the oil and gas industry, as well as efforts to enhance regulatory efficiency, improve investment inflows and strengthen energy security.

The engagement comes amid the Government’s push to accelerate reforms designed to attract investment, expand infrastructure, boost domestic energy supply and improve the overall competitiveness of Nigeria’s energy sector.

Verheijen and Umar also underscored the importance of sustained cooperation between policymakers, regulators and private sector operators to unlock growth opportunities and maximize the benefits of ongoing reforms.

They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that will drive investment, enhance energy security and deliver greater value to Nigerians while positioning the country as a leading energy destination in Africa.

The meeting forms part of ongoing engagements by the Presidency and key sector regulators to advance the administration’s energy agenda and strengthen confidence in Nigeria’s evolving oil and gas industry.
