A tragic incident in Abuja’s Mabushi area has resulted in the deaths of six people, including a pregnant woman and her child, Persecondnews reports.

An argument between a driver and two transport union touts, often called “agberos,” escalated into a fatal car crash.

The driver had stopped at the Berger Roundabout in Wuse, Abuja, to pick up a relative.

According to an eyewitness, the agberos, who are affiliated with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the National Union Road Transport Employees (NURTE), confronted the driver, accusing him of breaking their rules.

They allegedly forced their way into the vehicle, grabbing the steering wheel.

This struggle caused the car to swerve and crash into a bridge pillar in Mabushi, killing the driver, his pregnant wife, and their two children instantly.

The agberos’ aggressive and reckless behavior has become a serious problem in Abuja, where they are known to operate with little to no accountability.

In the aftermath of the crash, a mob carried out “jungle justice” on the three agberos involved, setting them on fire.

This mob violence tragically highlights the community’s frustration with the unchecked aggression of these touts.

When Persecondnews asked for a comment, the Chairman of the NURTW Banex branch did not respond to text messages sent to his phone as of the time of this report.

The silence leaves many questions unanswered about the union’s role in the incident and what, if anything, it plans to do to address the issue of its members’ violence.
