Actress Iyabo Ojo Speaks on EFCC Invitation Over Cash Sprayed at Daughter’s Wedding

Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has broken her silence following reports that she was recently invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged currency abuse.

Iyabo Ojo confirmed in a Monday statement that the EFCC invited her regarding the spraying of money at her daughter’s wedding.

She stated that she received the invitation while in the UK and complied immediately upon her return to Nigeria.

“On May 5th, 2025, I visited the EFCC office where I was questioned about my personal biodata, career, work history, and businesses,” she said.

According to her, the EFCC officials showed her video clips from the wedding event where guests were seen spraying both naira and foreign currencies.

She explained that she had previously believed only the abuse or mutilation of the naira was punishable under the law, not the act of spraying money.

“I was surprised to learn that spraying money, including foreign currencies like Dollars, is also not allowed,” she said, adding that the EFCC clarified the illegality of such acts during her interview.

Ojo noted that she was released the same day after the interrogation, with her legal representative, O.I. Salami, standing in for her in case of further inquiries.

Sharing a word of caution with the public, the actress advised Nigerians to desist from the common tradition of spraying money at events to avoid similar confrontations with the EFCC.

“Perhaps it’s time to reconsider this long-standing tradition,” she said. “Let’s prioritize caution and avoid any potential problems.”

As the EFCC intensifies its crackdown on naira abuse, it has specifically warned celebrities and the public about the legal consequences of engaging in such activities.
