Nollywood star Funke Akindele has taken a firm stand against the rising trend of online bullying, particularly directed at her colleague, Toyin Abraham.
In an effort to calm tensions and foster harmony, the actress has urged her fans to embrace love and kindness in all their interactions, especially on social media.
Akindele made the appeal while promoting her latest movie, “Everybody Loves Jenifa.”
Along with stunning visuals from the movie, the box office sensation posted a thoughtful message on her social media platforms, emphasizing the power of words and the importance of being mindful of the impact they can have on others.
Addressing the issue, Akindele voiced her worry about the growing online harassment of Toyin Abraham.
She urged her followers and the general public to be kind with their words, as they can either uplift or deeply hurt those who are the subjects of such comments.
“Words can make or break anyone,” she noted.
In her plea for compassion, the actress pointed out that everyone is fighting their own battles, many of which are not visible to the outside world.
She reminded her fans that a single kind word could provide much-needed support during tough times.
“Let’s lift each other up with love, encouragement, and support,” she wrote, stressing that bullying goes beyond physical harm and that verbal aggression can be equally damaging.
Akindele specifically appealed to her loyal fan base to rise above the negativity and to help create a welcoming, supportive community. “Spread love!!! Be kind!!” she urged.
The actress’ statement comes in the wake of ongoing fan wars between supporters of Akindele and Toyin Abraham.
These online skirmishes have often escalated into abusive exchanges, leading to tensions between the two actresses.
In response to the public’s perception of a feud, Toyin Abraham had previously penned an open letter, acknowledging the rivalry but attributing it largely to the actions of their overzealous fanbases.
In her letter, Abraham revealed that the fan wars had taken a personal toll on both her and Akindele, affecting not only their emotional well-being but also their professional careers.
Despite the public clashes, Abraham congratulated Akindele for reaching a significant milestone in the cinema world, crossing the one billion naira mark.
Following these tensions, Abraham also took to social media to address netizens who had trolled her by making comparisons to Akindele.
In one instance, a follower suggested that Funke Akindele would imitate one of Toyin’s posts within hours.
Abraham, clearly displeased, rebuked the troll, calling for an end to such divisive comments.
