President Muhammadu Buhari’s in-law and former governorship aspirant in Kaduna State, Sani Shaaban, has quit the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Persecondnews reports that Shaaban’s resignation followed controversy which trailed governorship primary in the state.

Shaaban, a former member of the House of Representatives, had contested the May 25, 2022 APC governorship primary in the state which was won by Senator Uba Sani.

In his resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of APC, Hanwa Ward in Sabon Gari Local Government Area, Shaaban said APC in the state has little or no regard for human lives, social integration, and rule of law, hence his decision to quit the party.

“Some few elements in Kaduna APC have hijacked the party structure.

“Where the interest of the majority of common folks is little regarded. I cannot remain in a party that has little or no regard for human lives, social integration, peace and traditional values.

“I Sani Mamood Sha’aban has officially and formally resigned my membership of the APC at all levels today 28 November, 2022,” he said.

According to him, the APC under Gov. Nasir el-Rufal has become more alienated from the masses, and rather than foster unity, social cohesion, and integration as envisaged by the founding fathers, the party has instead, brought hardship, division, and total disregard for human lives, communal and family values.

Shaaban urged the party to do what he called soul-searching with a view to returning it to the ideals for which it was formed by “progressive minds.”

On his next line of action, Buhari’s in-law  urged his supporters not to fret, saying he is now in consultation, and the next party he will join will be announced soon.

Shaaban also vowed to challenge the emergence of the APC governorship candidate  in court despite his resignation.
