Just in: Two of Igboho aides including a woman, charged with terrorism by DSS

“The DSS alleged that Oyetunji was in possession of fire arms for terrorism-related activities while Babatunde (the woman) is alleged to have promoted terroristic acts through her Facebook account”

The two aides of Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a Igboho Oosha, still being held by the Department of State Services (DSS), are now to face terrorism charges.

Already, the secret police have filed a five-count terrorism charge against the duo of Noah Oyetunji and Amudat Babatunde (the only woman among the 12 who were arrested at Igboho’s house) at a Federal High Court in Abuja.

The suit no. FHC/ABJ/CR/305/2021, dated August 31, 2021 was filed by the DSS lawyer, Mr S.M. Bello.

The DSS alleged that Oyetunji was in possession of fire arms for terrorism-related activities while Babatunde (the woman) is alleged to have promoted terroristic acts through her Facebook account.

Reacting to the charges, counsel to the detainees, Mr Pelumi Olajengbesi, described them as baseless, vexatious, shameful and without limbs.

No date has been fixed for the hearing of the case.

Persecondnews recalls that the DSS had last week released 10 of the 12 aides of Igboho after over 60 days in their detention cells.

They were arrested on July 1, 2021
during a midnight bloody invasion of Igboho’s house in Ibadan, Oyo State by the DSS and whisked away to Abuja.

They had approached the court to press for their fundamental rights.

On August 4, 2021, Justice Obiora Egwuatu of a Federal High Court, Abuja granted bails to the 12.

They fulfilled the bail conditions, including the provision of 24 sureties, but the DSS lawyer, Mr Idowu Awo, kicked against the bails granted to four of them, claiming that they were heavily involved in the alleged offence of arms stockpiling and other criminal activities of Igboho.

However, on August 30, 2021, the DSS complied with the court order and released eight of the 12 detainees while holding onto the remaining four.

Again, two of the four were released on September 3 with Babatunde and Oyetunji still in detention.

The refusal of the DSS to comply with the court order has drawn the ire of three Senior Advocates of Nigeria – Femi Falana, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa and Ifedayo Adedipe.

They described the impunity as an invitation to anarchy and lawlessness into the country.

Meanwhile, Igboho, who has been declared wanted by the DSS for alleged arms stockpiling, is still in detention in Cotonou, Benin Republic, since July 19, 2021 following his arrest at the country’s airport while trying to board a Germany-bound flight with his wife, Ropo.
