Grief-stricken Ogun Gov. Abiodun, ex-Gov. Daniel mourn Kashamu

Ogun Gov. Dapo Abiodun says he is terrified by the passing on of ex-Senator Buruji Kashamu on Saturday in Lagos just as one of the former governors of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, also expressed grief over his sudden demise.

 

Persecondnews had reported that the Ogun East (Ijebu/Remo) Senator in the 8th National Assembly on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), died in a Lagos hospital on Saturday.

 

 

He contested against Abiodun and other governorship candidates in March 2019 polls.

 

Abiodun described Kashamu’s demise as one death too many and a devastating blow to the nation’s political family generally, a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, said.

 

 

“I received the sad news of the passing of Senator Buruji Kashamu today, 8 August, 2020, with a deep pain and grief that words cannot capture. On behalf of my family, the Government and good people of Ogun State, I convey our deepest condolences.

 

“His demise further diminishes the tribe of my close political associates. He was a large-hearted politician and courageous fighter for whatever cause he believed in.

 

“He was not just a loving personality, a generous giver and someone who lived for others, he was to many a beacon of hope of a better tomorrow. This painful exit is much more than the end of an individual.

 

“Distinguished Senator Kashamu was a phenomenon ,he was faithful to his principles and convictions and even his critics would attest to his tenacity of purpose,’’ the governor said.

 

He also said: “Our brother and friend was a consummate politician and patriot who will be sorely missed within and outside Ogun State for his larger than life disposition.

 

“Posterity will accord him his due recognition for his legacies of service and forthrightness. He was a worthy Ambassador of Ogun State.”

 

Abiodun, however, urged the people of the state to find solace in the saying of Prophet Muhammad (SAW): “Amazing is the affair of the believer, verily all of his affair is good and this is not for anyone except the believer. If something of good or happiness befalls him he is grateful and that is good for him. If something of harm befalls him, he is patient and that is good for him” (Saheeh Muslim #2999).’’

 

The governor prayed to God to forgive his sins and to  grant the family, friends and associates the patience to bear the painful loss,

 

Also, former Gov. Gbenga Daniel has described the death of the PDP stalwart as a rude shock but expressed satisfaction for being able to “make up with’’ him before he died.

 

 

Noting that in spite of all their political disagreements, he said he was able to reconcile with Kashamu while alive.

 

 

“I received with shock the news of the death of Senator Buruji Kasamu, who represented the Ogun East Senatorial District in the Red Chambers between 2015 and 2019.

 

“I picked a Timeless lesson of how transient life can be from this sad occurrence. I am glad despite all our years of political diagreements, conflicts and turbulence, by the hands of Providence my heart found a rare opportunity of forgiving and making up with him before his untimely death.

 

“I pray for his repose to find peace with his Maker and for his family to find the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,’’ Daniel, who defected from PDP to All Progressives Congress (APC) on the eve of 2019 polls, said.

 

Daniel was appointed the Director-General of the Campaign Organization of PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, a post he held until he defected.
