Spanish second-tier football is in mourning after CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel Alameda died at 29, just hours after collapsing during Monday’s Segunda División clash with FC Andorra.
“Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, we at CD Tenerife announce the tragic passing, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesús de Miguel Alameda,” the club posted on X.
The forward suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest after a heavy collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono that halted the match in stoppage time.
Hospitalised urgently, his neurological condition deteriorated rapidly, forcing his transfer into intensive care where he failed to recover.
Tenerife expressed deep condolences to his family, who thanked supporters for their messages while asking for privacy as they grieve.
The sudden loss has cast a sombre shadow over Spanish football, drawing widespread sympathy across the game.
