A young man, who allegedly tangled with a security guard for refusing his sister entry into a market for not using face mask in the relaxed lockdown in Anambra State has lost his life in the encounter.

For Cletus Chisom little did he know that his altercation with a security guard at Coca Cola Market in Onitsha for denying her sister access to the facility for violating the COVID-19 measures would be fatal.

Chisom too also reportedly went to the market without wearing face mask to challenge the guard and spoiling for a fight.

The deceased’s mother and sister were at the market to purchase some items when the guard stopped the sister from entering for failing to put on a face mask, a witness said.

The mother was said to have bought a face mask for her daughter later but the guard still insisted that only the woman would be allowed access to the market with a facemask.

Trouble started when the girl reportedly rushed home and came with her elder brother to confront the guard.

“As the argument ensued, the angry guard brought a knife and stabbed the deceased in the chest,’’ the witness also said.

The victim was rushed to Goodnews Hospital, Onitsha, where he was confirmed dead.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman for Anambra State Police Command, DSP Haruna Mohammed, said the security guard attached to Coca-Cola Market, Onitsha, one Ibuchi Nwoju, aged 26 years, has been arrested.

He said the corpse has been deposited at a hospital morgue for autopsy.

Mohammed said the Police Commissioner, Mr John Abang, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal and Investigations Department, Awka, for investigation.
