Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson put on a breathtaking display to help his team complete one of the biggest smash and grabs in Champions League history to come away from their last-16 first leg against Paris St-Germain with a win.
The Brazilian keeper made 10 crucial saves, taking command of his penalty area and exuding an aura of calm in a backline that looked shaky at times.
The Reds were under siege for most of the match, with PSG having 27 shots to Liverpool’s two.
However, Alisson’s heroics ensured that the English champions-elect returned home with a valuable clean sheet.
His performance was hailed by many as the best individual display of Liverpool’s season, and arguably one of the greatest goalkeeping performances in recent Champions League history.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot had praised his team’s mental resilience and defensive steel in the build-up to the match, and they were certainly put to the test in Paris.
The Reds were forced to “suffer” in the first half, but their patience and determination ultimately paid off.
While PSG were the more fashionable outfit on the night, Liverpool’s efficient display got the job done, thanks in large part to Alisson’s brilliance.
The Brazilian keeper has faced his share of challenges over the past 18 months, struggling in the Europa League last season and dealing with injuries.
However, he has consistently demonstrated his ability to perform at the highest level, and many consider him the best goalkeeper in the Premier League, if not the world.
His display in Paris will only add to his reputation as one of the greatest goalkeepers of his generation.
