Tears flowed freely in Iwo, Osun State, as residents and sympathizers gathered in their hundreds, including theatre practitioners, for the burial of the actor, Qodri Oyebamiji, also known as Sisi Qodri, on Saturday.

The body of the deceased, transported in an ambulance, arrived at his residence in the Agbowo area of the town at 11.00 a.m., drawing a large crowd of mourners who wept inconsolably.

Following Islamic rites performed by Muslim clerics, the body was laid to rest before 1.00p.m.

Speaking to the newsmen, Toyin Olaiya, the immediate past governor of the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (TAMPAN) in Osun State, revealed that Oyebamiji fell ill while working on location.

“Sisi Quadri became unwell and was admitted to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, where he sadly passed away on Friday,” Olaiya lamented.

“I discovered him (the late Quadri). He joined my group in 1996. It was shocking to hear of his death. I was informed he fell ill and was brought back from the location earlier this week. Such occurrences are not uncommon among theatre practitioners. People can fall ill and receive treatment.”

“When I learned of his illness, I urged some of his peers who were trained under me to visit him. I was informed that he had been transferred to a private medical facility in Iwo for treatment. I never imagined it would lead to his death.”

Olaiya, the leader of the first theatre group that Quadri joined in Iwo, expressed disbelief that the end was near for the deceased when news of his illness reached him.
