As the conclusion of collation of results is underway in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, on Tuesday, a water-tight security has been provided at the state collation centre and in the city.
Following the directive of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja, the Returning Officer and other officials have returned to Yola amid heavy security presence to resume and conclude the collation of results of the April 15 supplementary election.
Persecondnews reported that collation of results was suspended on Sunday following the usurpation of the duty of the Returning Officer by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barrister Hudu Yunusa Ari, who illegally announced the APC candidate, Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani as winner of the governorship poll while collation was yet to be completed.
He was accompanied to the centre by the Police Commissioner and other heads of security agencies in the state.
Following the suspension of the REC, the INEC Administrative Secretary in the state, Mr Adamu Gujungu, has been directed to take over immediately.
INEC had immediately summoned Ari to Abuja and declared his announcement as invalid and an usurpation of the powers of the Collation and Returning Officer.
Before the collation exercise was suspended on Saturday night, results from 10 local government areas had been announced with Binani trailing Fintiri.
The collation of results from the remaining 10 LGAs was expected to commence by 11am on Sunday, and Mele Lamido, the Returning Officer for the Adamawa governorship election, was absent when Ari announced Binani as the winner.
