202

In a major political shake-up at the National Assembly, four federal lawmakers from Kano State have formally defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant shift in the opposition ranks.

The lawmakers, who announced their switch are Sani Wakili, representing the Minjibir/Ungogo federal constituency; Muktar Zakari of the Tarauni federal constituency; Umar Datti from the Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam federal constituency; and Abdulhakeem Ado, who represents the Wudil/Garko federal constituency.

The defection notices were read aloud by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during the House of Representatives plenary session on Wednesday, confirming the lawmakers’ decision to leave the NNPP and join the ADC.

The development comes amid ongoing political realignments in Nigeria’s opposition space and is expected to alter the balance of forces within the Kano delegation in the lower chamber.
