In a renewed wave of kidnapping in Benue, Commissioner abducted

Some yet-to-be identified gunmen have seized Mr Ekpe Ogbu, the Benue State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development in a renewed wave of banditry and kidnapping in the state.

According to reports, the member of the Benue State Executive Council was kidnapped on Sunday evening on the Otukpo-Ado road in Ado Local Government Area about 8.45 pm.

The Police spokesperson in Benue, Anene Sewuese, confirmed on Monday morning that police officers have been dispatched to the area to rescue the politician.

She said the official vehicle of the Commissioner has been recovered at the scene of the abduction and taken to the Divisional Police headquarters in Otukpo.

Sewuese also said the State Police Commissioner had mandated the crack team of anti-kidnapping unit to go after the abductors, adding that updates on the incident will soon be made public.

The latest kidnap of the Commissioner came just few days after 17 wedding guests were kidnapped in the state.

Persecondnews recalls that the wedding guests were said to have left Gboko town in the state to attend the wedding ceremony of the nephew of a popular man of God based in Gboko when they were intercepted at Okene-Ibilo road.
