Following the impeachment of the Speaker, Mr Gboyega Aribisogan, elected six days ago, a new Speaker of the Ekiti House of Assembly has been named.
He is Mr Olubunmi Adelugba, who was elected by 17 out of the 25 members of the House.
Aribisogan, who represents Ikole Constituency 1, was on November 15 elected speaker, to replace Mr Funminiyi Afuye, who died in October after he reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest.
He has been suspended indefinitely, Persecondnews gathered.
The embattled Aribisogan had accused the immediate past governor of the state, Dr Kayode Fayemi of plotting to impeach him.
Last Wednesday, policemen had invaded the House over allegations of security threats which prompted Police Commissioner Adesina Moronkeji to order the Assembly complex shut.
Reacting, Aribisogan described the impeachment as illegal and accused Fayemi of being behind the crisis rocking the House of Assembly and sponsoring aggrieved lawmakers and armed thugs to impeach him.
“I didn’t have any quarrel with him (Fayemi). I sent a message to him even last night asking, ‘What is happening? Am I no longer one of your loyalists? Why did you not congratulate me?’
“Up till now that I’m speaking with you, he has not done anything. Otherwise, he has been going around calling our members to go and impeach me tomorrow. That is the truth,” he told reporters.
Persecondnews reports that the impeachment was supervised by armed policemen, who took over the Assembly.
