In less than two months, gunmen have again launched an attack Owo, the country home of Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), injuring security guards at a construction firm.
The gunmen had shot sporadically into the air and damaged the windshields of two earthmovers at the company site.
Persecondnews recalls that on June 5, 2022, a mass shooting and bomb attack occurred at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo which left at least 40 people dead and scores injured.
The Federal Government through the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, said the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) carried out the massacre.
Confirming the fresh attack on Thursday morning, the State Commander of Amotekun Security Corps (Southwest regional security outfit), Adetunji Adeleye, said two security men were injured in the incident.
“I have just left the scene and I realised that the two security men were injured as the attackers shot into the air.
“They damaged the windshields of two earthmovers of the construction company. The injured men have been taken to a hospital,’’ he said.
Adeleye, also the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, however, said “normalcy has since return to the area.”
Police have also confirmed the attack on their verified Twitter handle:”There was a shooting at a construction site in Owo on Wednesday night.
“Policemen are currently at the scene; victims have been taken to hospital, and they are in stable condition.”
