Court Orders Temporary Forfeiture of 23 Properties Linked To Maina

A Federal High Court in Abuja, on Tuesday, ordered the temporary forfeiture of 23 properties linked to the former Chairman of Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina.

The trial judge, Justice Folashade Ogunbanjo, gave the order while ruling on a motion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In the suit, the anti-graft agency urged the court to order the temporary forfeiture of the properties linked to Maina, and sought an order of the court to publish an advert on the properties in a national daily, to enable anyone who has any reason why they should not be finally forfeited to the Federal Government to come forward and prove same.

The EFCC supported its motion by a 30-paragraph affidavit, which it brought pursuant to Section 17 of the Money Laundering Act.

Delivering her ruling on the motion, Justice Ogunbanjo granted the prayers of the anti-graft agency, and also ordered that they return to the court on November 19, for the mentioning of the case.

The properties are situated in Kaduna, Borno, and Sokoto, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The temporarily forfeited properties includes: Plot MF19 cadastral zone, Karu, Abuja; Plot 18 Road F, Malali North, east residential Layout, Kaduna, Kaduna state; Flat 42C, SMC Quarters, unguwan Dosa, Kaduna State; Plot No 965, Gwarimpa 1 district, cadastral zone, Abuja, FCT; Duplex located at No. 16A Katuru road, Kaduna state; 3-bedrooms semi-detached bungalow at 52B SMC Quarters unguwan Dosa, Kaduna State; 3-bedrooms and an undeveloped land at Tola street, Badarawa, Kaduna state and Plot Y12 Kano street, Kawo new extension, Kaduna.

Others are: Duplex at 21, 52 crescent Kubwa phase IV, Abuja, FCT; House 8, 211 road, A close FHA/EST/264/TA/032, FCT; two farms at Dorawa Karshi development area, Karu LGA, Nasarawa; incomplete building at plot 3A Sambo road Unguwan rimi, Kaduna; Property located at 16B/BG Gombe road, Biu, Borno state; Plot MF 27A new Pasali layout, Kuje, FCT and Plot 1B Ajayi road, Unguwan Rimi, Kaduna.

Other properties are: No. 13 Korau road Nasarawa district, Kano; Plot 965 Cadastral zone, Gwarimpa, FCT; No. 16 Dubai road, off Mangoro road, Sokoto; Plot 37 Kinshasa road, Maiduguri, Borno state; Plot of C of O BO/426 beacon B5086, B5087, B5105, B5104, B5099 Cadastral zone BO5 Utako, FCT; Property at No. 62, A/C maternity ward Damaturu road, Biu, Borno state and 2-bedrooms semi-detached at block 23 flat 2, located at Life Camp, Abuja, FCT.
