Buhari contradicts population census chairman, says Nigeria’s population is 180 million

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday contradicted chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), over the population of Nigeria.

Buhari in London during the ongoing Commonwealth Heads of State Meeting said that Nigeria’s population is around 180 million people.

Chairman National Population Commission (NPC), Eze Duruiheoma, recently said Nigeria’s population consists of approximately 198 million people.

He made the disclosure while delivering Nigeria’s statement on sustainable cities, human mobility and international migration at the 51st session of Commission on Population and Development in New York.

“Nigeria remains the most populous in Africa, the seventh globally with an estimated population of over 198 million, he said.

The president appears not to be on same page with his appointee, when he said the population is 180 million.

” Nigeria has a very young population our population is estimated conservatively to be around 180 million, Buhari said in Video posted above.
