Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has praised late President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a patriot who dedicated himself to Nigeria’s progress and development.

In a statement released on Sunday in Abeokuta by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo expressed his profound sadness upon hearing the news of his former colleague’s passing.

Persecondnews recalls that Buhari had served as military governor and Federal Commissioner for Petroleum under Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo’s military administration 1976-1979.

Obasanjo said: ”It is with heavy heart I received the news of the passing of a colleague, a comrade, a cool patriot and a soldier, General Muhammadu Buhari.

“He played his role as a soldier, as an administrator and a statesman among numerous obligations he performed.

“At a time like this, we need the totality of the experience and what I may call statesmanship of all those who had opportunities to run the affairs of this country to get us out of the situation we are in.

”Buhari will be sorely missed and may his soul rest in perfect peace,” Obasanjo stated.
