As the wave of defections continues, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has again lost three House of Representatives members from Katsina to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Rep. Tajudeen Abbas, House Speaker, made the announcement during a session at the National Assembly in Abuja.

The defectors are Rep. Abdullahi Balarabe, representing the Bakori/Danja federal constituency; Rep. Abubakar Albaba Aliyu, representing the Batasari/Safana/Dan-Musa federal constituency, and Rep. Yusuf Majigiri, representing the Mashi/Dutsi federal constituency.

The lawmakers cited the lingering internal crisis and unresolved issues within the PDP as the major reasons behind their decision to leave the party.

They also cited PDP’s internal instability as the reason, saying it hindered their ability to effectively serve constituents and embrace progressive governance.

The lawmakers offered different reasons for their defection, with Balarabe pointing to PDP’s “protracted crisis”, Aliyu citing the party’s “lack of cohesiveness”, and Majigiri highlighting a “high level of internal crisis without cure”.

Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda showed solidarity by attending the session where the lawmakers formally announced their defection.

The ruling party has been significantly strengthening its political foothold through a string of high-profile defections in recent times.

Persecondnews recalls that on Tuesday, May 6, APC had welcomed six Delta lawmakers who defected from the PDP and two Labour Party Enugu lawmakers.
