Ahead of AFCON, Nigeria’s U20 boys and seven-time African champions, the Flying Eagles, have returned to camp as they prepare for a two-match tour of Egypt later this month, Persecondnews reports.
Head Coach Aliyu Zubairu has called up 30 players to camp as the team gears up for the friendlies against Egypt’s U20 team in Cairo.
The matches, scheduled for February 25 and 27, are part of the Flying Eagles’ preparations for the Africa U20 Cup of Nations, which will be held in Cote d’Ivoire from April 26 to May 18.
The top four teams at the tournament will qualify for the FIFA U20 World Cup finals in Chile, scheduled for September 27 to October 19.
The Flying Eagles won the WAFU-B U20 Championship in Togo last year to qualify for the finals in Cote d’Ivoire.
They defeated Ghana’s Black Satellites 3-1 in the final match.
The team will be looking to build on their past successes, including their two-time FIFA World Cup runners-up finishes in 1989 and 2005.
