Suspected cultists killed Mutiu Akinbami on Friday, a former councillor in the Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Akinbami, popularly known as Egor, was attacked at the defunct Top Brewery area of Abeokuta about 6:10 p.m. and shot in the head while riding a motorcycle.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, the spokesman for the State Police Command, DSP Omolola Odutola, said: “The Divisional Police Office of Lafenwa received a report at about 6:40 p.m. that Mutiu Akinbami, a resident of Olomore Housing Estate, had been shot near the abandoned brewery.
“The deceased was riding home on a motorcycle when one of the masked occupants of an unregistered white-tinted glass Hilux shot him from behind.
“The divisional police officer quickly mobilized patrol teams to the location and transported the victim to Ijaiye General Hospital, Abeokuta, where a doctor confirmed him dead.”
She also revealed that the deceased, a former employee of the Federal College of Education, Osiele, in Abeokuta, was on a wanted person’s list.
“Arrests have been made, and further details will be provided as investigations continue,” she promised.
