The Federal Government has begun coordinating examination bodies to align their 2027 examination schedules and results release with the tertiary institutions’ admission calendar.
According to the Ministry of Education, the move targets the release of results by August 2027 to enable eligible candidates to commence admission processes into tertiary institutions by September.
As part of efforts to achieve the proposed timeline, Prof. Said Suwaiba Ahmad, the Minister of State for Education, convened a meeting with heads and representatives of examination bodies at the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
The meeting focused on aligning examination schedules, minimising timetable clashes and ensuring the timely processing and release of results, a statement emailed to PerSecondNews by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations, reads.
“The initiative targets the release of results by August 2027 to enable eligible candidates to commence the admission process into tertiary institutions by September,” the ministry said.
Under the proposed timetable, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will conduct the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) from March 15 to 25, 2027, with results scheduled for release later that month.
The National Examinations Council (NECO) will host its Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) from April 1 to May 14, 2027, targeting an August release for results.
Meanwhile, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) will hold the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) from May 11 to June 18, 2027, with its results also slated for August.
The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) examination is proposed for June 1 to July 5, 2027, while the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) examination is scheduled for June 10 to July 9, 2027. Results for both are targeted for August.
“The meeting focused on aligning examination schedules, minimising timetable clashes, and ensuring the timely processing and release of results,” it added.
The exercise forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to improve examination coordination and ensure timely access to tertiary education.
It also supports the education reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, being implemented by the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, through the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI).
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining engagement with examination bodies to ensure compliance with agreed timelines, strengthen accountability and synchronise examination schedules and results releases with tertiary admissions.
