A one-time Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, is dead.

He was 61.

Born on December 20, 1962, he joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1986 and retired as a Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2021.

Lamorde, who hails from Mubi, Adamawa State, attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology in 1984.

During his time as a police officer, he served as EFCC chairman from 2011 to 2015.

Persecondnews gathered that Lamorde passed away in Egypt, where he had travelled for medical treatment.

According to his profile on the EFCC website, Lamorde was the third Executive Chairman of the commission.

Following Mrs. Farida Waziri’s removal, President Goodluck Jonathan appointed him in an acting capacity as Chairman of the Commission on November 3, 2011.

On February 15, 2012, the Senate confirmed him as the third substantive chairman of the Commission.

In 2003, the EFCC appointed Lamorde as its pioneering director of operations.

In December 2007, Lamorde assumed the role of acting chairman in January 2008, a role she maintained until the Senate confirmed Mrs. Waziri’s appointment as chairperson in June 2008.

In December 2010, Lamorde returned to the EFCC, again as Director of Operations, to replace Mr. Stephen Otitoju, the then Acting Director of Operations.
