A stampede at the convocation square of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) has claimed the lives of at least two students.

Persecondnews gathered that the authorities had asked the students to go to the convocation square for the distribution of palliatives.

The state government had recently flagged off the distribution of 2 bags of 7.5 kg of rice and ₦5,000 each as palliative to students of the state in tertiary institutions.

However, on Friday morning, the distribution of the rice bags to the beneficiaries at NSUK took a different turn when the area turned raucous, forcing students to barge into the distribution area and begin carting away as many bags as their hands could carry.

The rush resulted in a stampede with many of the students trampling on one another, which led to the deaths of a male and female student, with several others sustaining injuries.

Those injured are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi.
