Nigerian actress, Bimbo Ademoye, has opened up on the tenacity behind her brand, revealing the effort she invested to push her career to new heights.
Inspired by Zlatan’s recent song, she adopted the mantra, “Go hard or go home”, as her guiding principle, emphasizing the need for relentless dedication in the fiercely competitive entertainment industry.
According to her, the genesis of the success story began with a lighthearted video where she showcased her talent for mimicking the eccentricities of Yoruba aunties at parties.
A playful moment during a regular day at work turned into a viral sensation when fellow actress Bisola Aiyeola recorded and shared the video.
She noted that the overwhelming positive response to the act, set the stage for her journey.
Seizing the momentum, Bimbo said she leveraged her comedic skills for a brand collaboration, dressing up as a Yoruba woman in a video that garnered over 1.5 million views on Instagram.
The pivotal moment came when her mother, Uduak Isong, insisted on creating a YouTube channel for Bimbo.
Speaking on how she overcame initial fears and uncertainties, she noted that she delved into the world of content creation.
Seeking advice from Director Biodun Stephen, she birthed the character “Iya Barakat,” a comedic therapist with intentionally poor English and spelling.
“Iya Barakat” quickly became a sensation, accumulating millions of views and surpassing Bimbo’s popularity.
The actress acknowledged the challenges, recognizing that the path to success is not always smooth.
“Despite fluctuations in views and engagement, I remained resolute. I didn’t choose the easy route but committed to going hard. It was a commitment that continued unabated.
“The character Iya Barakat, conceived out of collaboration and creativity, has become a household name with brands specifically requesting her presence.
Bimbo Ademoye has not only embraced her newfound success but has also ventured into funding another show called “Sibe”.
