Fool at 40! ‘I’m bigger than Fela’ — Wizkid fires back at Seun Kuti

Wizkid has finally broken his silence on the escalating online feud involving his fanbase and Seun Kuti, the Afrobeat musician and son of the late legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, turning a simmering debate into a full-blown public clash.

The controversy began last week after Seun Kuti, 43, accused members of Wizkid’s fanbase, popularly known as Wizkid FC, of showing disrespect to his father’s legacy by repeatedly comparing the Grammy-winning singer to Fela.

Seun’s remarks quickly gained traction online, reigniting long-standing arguments about legacy, influence, and who truly defines Afrobeat for different generations of listeners.

Until now, Wizkid, 35, had remained silent, even as the debate intensified across social media platforms and drew in fans, critics, and industry observers.

However, on Tuesday evening, the ‘Made in Lagos’ hitmaker took to his Instagram Stories to vent his frustration, signalling that he was no longer willing to stay out of the conversation.

Wizkid kicked off his reaction by sharing a video of a woman delivering a heated tirade in Yoruba, widely interpreted by fans as a subtle but pointed jab directed at Seun Kuti.

The singer followed up with a series of posts that left little room for ambiguity, openly mocking Seun and questioning his relevance in the contemporary music scene.

In one of the most controversial moments of his outburst, Wizkid referred to Seun as a “fool at 40,” a statement that immediately set social media ablaze and divided opinions among fans and commentators.

He went further to suggest that his own global achievements and influence in modern music placed him above comparisons with Fela, a claim that sparked outrage among Afrobeat purists and defenders of the late icon’s legacy.

Supporters of Wizkid, however, rallied behind the superstar, arguing that his statement reflected his dominance in today’s global music industry rather than a dismissal of Fela’s historical importance.

On the other hand, Seun Kuti’s supporters accused Wizkid of crossing a line, insisting that Fela’s cultural, political, and musical impact transcends commercial success and awards.
