Alleged N4bn fraud: EFCC detains, grills ex-Ekiti Gov. Fayemi

After taking leave to attend former President Muhammadu Buhari’s book launch, the immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, on Thursday turned himself in to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged fraud of N4 billion.

Fayemi, who was quizzed at the Ilorin, Kwara State Zonal Office of the agency, was said to have misappropriated N4 billion during his tenure as the governor of the state.

Persecondnews reports that Fayemi, a former Minister of Mines and Steel Development during the first tenure of Buhari, was still undergoing interrogation at about 4:15pm.

The EFCC had in May in the twilight of Buhari administration invited Fayemi, erstwhile Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum but pleaded to allow him attend Buhari’s book launch as the book reviewer.

The spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed Fayemi’s presence at the commission’s Ilorin office but refused to give details.

“He would likely be released tonight or tomorrow morning after explanations,” a source said.
