An aircraft belonging to the United Nigeria Airlines on Wednesday skidded off the runway at the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed International airport, Lagos.
The panic-stricken 50 passengers who boarded the plane from Abakaliki, Ebonyi, however, disembarked safely.
Officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the airlines engineers were seen working to move the aircraft to the hangar.
According to Mr Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, the Head, Corporate Communications of the airlines, said the aircraft landed safely but was forced to terminate its movement to the apron off the runway.
He said the Nigeria Civil Aviation Agency (NCAA) and the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) had been duly informed of the “incident” and had mobilized to the scene.
“The airline maintains the strictest safety standards in its operations and would continue to prioritise the safety of passengers at all times.”
Persecondnews recalls that on 7 May, 2023, a Max Air flight crash-landed at the Nnamidi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja with about 143 passengers and a baby on board escaping deaths by hairsbreadth.
The two tyres of the aircraft caught fire as it crash-landed but was put off by fire-fighters.
