Ransom Allegations: Sen. Ndume Demands Probe After DSS Arrests Borno Youth Leader

Sen. Ali Ndume, the Senator representing Borno South Constituency, says his petition over allegations of a ₦5 billion Boko Haram ransom claim has led to the arrest of Samaila Ibrahim Kaigama, President of the Borno State Youth Association by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Ndume, while featuring in an interview on Channels TV, monitored by Persecondnews on Friday, said he reported Kaigama to security agencies after the youth leader allegedly linked him to ransom negotiations over the release of abducted persons in Borno.

The senator said the matter should now be investigated by relevant authorities, adding that both parties should be given the opportunity to present evidence before conclusions are reached.

“After complaining severally to the DSS and other agencies, I understand that two days ago he has been invited by DSS to come and explain,” he said.

Persecondnews recalls that Kaigama had alleged that he was in contact with Boko Haram over the release of captives, claiming ransom demands were part of efforts to secure the freedom of 360 hostages.

The Borno State Government has denied the claims, while Ndume rejected allegations linking him to any ransom arrangement or negotiations with terrorists.

“I do not support negotiating with Boko Haram. I do not support payment of ransom to anybody, and I will never support it.”

Ndume said he could not have been involved in a process he does not support, insisting that anyone with evidence should present it to the appropriate authorities.

“I don’t support negotiation with Boko Haram, I don’t support payment of ransom to anybody. Then how can I be involved in something that I don’t believe in?”

The senator also challenged claims that ₦5 billion was paid through him, saying such a transaction should be traceable and those responsible should explain how the money was handled.

“In my life, I have never seen one billion at once, not to talk of five billion. If such money was paid, who approved it and which account received it?”

Ndume called for a transparent investigation, urging security agencies to invite all parties involved and establish the facts surrounding the allegations.

“Invite both of us, question us and build evidence so that whoever is responsible will face the consequences,” the senator also said.

He said the controversy should not overshadow the plight of residents affected by insurgency, revealing that some of his constituents remain in Boko Haram captivity.
