The Abia State Governor-elect, Dr Alex Otti, says payment of workers’ salaries will be his top priority when he takes office on May 29.

He also said residents of the state should expect a general restructuring.

Otti, a one-time Managing Director of Diamond Bank, gave the promise while appearing as guest on Arise Television’s “The Morning Show’’, anchored by Dr Reuben Abati on Thursday.

Persecondnews reports that Abia erupted in jubilation on Wednesday, March 22, when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Otti, the winner of the March 18 poll.

The declaration of the poll results came after five days of tension and protests in the state following the suspension of results collation by INEC.

Otti polled a total of 175,467 votes to defeat his closest rival, Okey Ahiwe of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 88,529 votes to place second.

Otti said: “As of yesterday, I had already started engaging banks. Abia people should expect a general restructuring of Abia.

“There is no problem in taking loans, but the problem is what you do with the loans. Payment of salaries is my priority.

“We will create a bigger economy, a robust economy; we will do everything possible to ensure our economy grows.”

On his next line of action ahead of his inauguration, Otti said: “In the next few days, I will appoint a team that will be sworn in on May 29. I will appoint the right people who will help me.

“We will look at a lot of things, but we will take it step by step, including revenue.”
