Following the suspension of shuttle services as a result of derailment on January 27, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the resumption of the Abuja-Kaduna train service.

The announcement was made in a statement by the Director, Operations, NRC, Niyi Alli, on Monday and obtained by Persecondnews.

The Abuja-Kaduna train had derailed on January 27 in the Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) which led to the suspension of operations on the route.

The statement reads: “Subsequently, the service will resume on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, with the following daily schedule; KA2 departs Rigasa at 7am; AK1 departs Idu at 10am; KA4 departs Rigasa at 1pm while AK3 departs Idu at 4pm.

“However on Wednesday only KA2 will depart Rigasa at 7am and AK 3 will depart Idu at 4pm.

“The Corporation once again regrets any inconvenience our esteemed passengers may have experienced as a result of the temporary suspension of the service.”

Persecondnews recalls that while suspending the services, the NRC had said: “The Board and Management of Nigerian Railway Corporation regrets to inform the general public, particularly our passengers of AK3 and KA4 of today 27th January 2023 that the disruption experienced on our Abuja Kaduna Train Service was a result of the derailment of KA4 at Kubwa station.

“There was no casualty recorded. The NRC rescue team has mobilized to the site to re-rail the rolling stock and repair the track.

“Consequently, the Abuja Kaduna Train Service is temporarily suspended.”
