PDP conciliation: Tambuwal resigns as PDP Governors’ Forum Chair, Oyo Gov. Makinde, takes over

Still in the quest to redistribute and zone positions in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal has resigned as the Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum.

Tambuwal’s resignation was announced on Thursday almost after the Chairman of the Board of Trustee (BoT) of the party, Senator Walid Jibrin, resigned his position over the crisis rocking the party.

Persecondnews had reported that former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, has been named as the Acting Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the country’s main opposition party.

The governors’ forum chairmanship slot which was zoned to Southwest is given Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde.

Tambuwal announced his resignation at the PDP’s National Executive Council meeting in Abuja.

Earlier, the National Executive Council (NEC) of the PDP had passed a vote of confidence on its National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu to stay as chairman.

The party held its NEC meeting in Abuja on Thursday to address issues in the party.

The 397 members of the NEC present at the meeting voted in support of Ayu to continue as the chairman of the party.

There have been mounting pressure on Ayu to resign as PDP Chairman by Gov. Nyesom Wike and Southern caucus of the party.

Wike and others have complained bitterly that PDP is fast becoming a Northern party as all key positions are being held by members from the zone.

Senator Walid Jibrin, while resigning his position over the crisis rocking the party, said: “I am stepping down as the chairman of BoT. I am stepping down to make it easier for all of us.”

He spoke at the BoT and National Executive Committee meeting on Thursday in Abuja.

Jibrin has held the position for six years after taking over from Haliru Bello who was removed in 2016.
