Overwhelmed by the intractable security challenges in the Northern part of the country, Zamfara Governor Bello Matawalle, has called on the Buhari administration declare a state of emergency in the region without further delay.

Matawalle, who said he was seriously concerned about the series of attacks in many states in the region, believed that a declaration of a state of emergency will address the problem of insecurity in the North.
Persecondnews reports that the governor made the call on Wednesday at a meeting with the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 10, Mr Ali Janga, at the Government House in Gusau, the state capital.
Northern zone comprises three geopolitical zones – North East, North West, and North-Central – and 19 states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“A declaration of a state of emergency will address the problem of insecurity in the North.
“We seriously concerned about the series of attacks in many states in the region, ” Matawalle said.
Over the years, parts of the region have been grappling with a series of criminalities such as kidnapping, bombings, and attacks on communities as a result of insurgency and banditry.
Thousands of people have lost their lives in the zone while several millions of people have been displaced.
Boko Haram and Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) have launched ceaseless assaults and insurgency in the Northeast, while bandits have been  kidnapping for millions of Naira as ransom in the Northwest and parts of the North central.
Schools and security formations have been targets of the criminals with the latest attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, where two soldiers were killed and an Army Major abducted during wee-hours invasion.
