Prof. Ojerinde, Ex-JAMB, NECO Registrar, remanded in prison

A former Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and the National Examination Council (NECO), Prof. Adedibu Ojerinde, has been remanded in prison in Abuja.

A Federal High Court in Abuja which gave the order on Tuesday, said Ojerinde should remain in custody till July 8 pending the hearing of his bail application.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu gave the ruling after Ojerinde was arraigned on an 18-count charge bordering on complicity in the diversion of public funds estimated at N5.2 billion.

Ojerinde pleaded innocence of the offences.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) told the court that Ojerinde committed the offences from 2003 to 2020 when he served as the Registrar of NECO.

Ojerinde’s lawyer, Mr Peter Olorunnishola (SAN) told the court that he had filed a bail application for him and the same served on the prosecution.

Olorunnishola asked for more time to react to the counter-affidavit filed by the Counsel to the Prosecution, Mr Ebenezer Shogunle.

Shogunle, however, opposed the defence lawyer’s application that Ojerinde be allowed to continue to enjoy the earlier administrative bail granted him by the ICPC pending the hearing of the bail application.
